Sun. July 9: Zamling Chezang (special day to pray for good fortune for the world). On this day in Tibet we celebrate the victory of all good omens over evil with incense offering and prayers. So on this auspicious day we will also celebrate His Holiness’ birthday with Sangsol at the Stupa.

Thur. July 27: Drukpa Tseshi is also known as Chokhor Dhuchin (first turning of the wheel) When Buddha turned the wheel of Dharma for the first time & taught the 4 truths to the five ascetics in the Deer Park at Sarnath, near Varanasi

Sat. Nov 11: Lhabab Dhuchen – Buddha’s descend from Heaven of 33 A day of prayer honoring the Buddha Shakyamuni’s descent from the heavenly realms to the earth.

Sun. Dec 3: Full day retreat Avalokiteshvra

Tue. Dec 12: Festival of Lights Anniversary of the death of the great Tsongkhapa, founder of the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism. Tibetans make butter lamp offerings at home and in monasteries on the 25th day of the 10th month of the Tibetan calendar.

The “ * ” indicates special Buddha days. We have scheduled full day retreats on a couple of full moon days. However, in order to ensure that we don’t miss our monthly full moon Tara practice, we have scheduled them on other auspicious days. More details on retreats will follow closer to the dates. Full moons are marked in green.

For those who wish to observe the whole month of the four great occasions in Buddha’s life, here are the starts days.

  1. Month of miracle: Monday, February 27 – March 27
  2. Sakadawa or Vesak month: Friday, May 26 to June 24, 2017
  3. Chokor Dhuchen of first turning of the wheel Monday, July 24, 2017 – August 23, 2017
  4. Lhabab Dhuchen Friday, October 20 – November 19
